Manager Arsene Wenger could name Wilshere on the substitutes' bench for the clash against Rafael Benitez's in-form team as he prepares to recall fit-again Tomas Rosicky.
The Czech midfielder trained fully on Sunday after recovering from a thigh injury that has kept him out for nearly a month and is expected to re-join first-team training on Monday morning.
Santi Cazorla is hopeful of returning to training later this week but the second of Arsenal's Champions League group games will come too early for the influential Spaniard.
Goal understands that Cazorla is undergoing intensive rehabilitation work and is no longer wearing a protective boot on the ankle he injured during the last international break, but Wenger does not want to rush him back into the first team set-up.
Cazorla wants to be involved against West Brom at the weekend but is expected to be held back until after the forthcoming international break
